Day after day I sit and write,
\nAnd thus the moments spend–
\nThe thought that occupies my mind,–
\nCompose to please my friend.<\/p>\n
And then I think I will compose,
\nAnd thus myself engage–
\nTo try to please young ladies minds,
\nWhich are about my age.<\/p>\n
The greatest word that I can say,–
\nI think to please, will be,
\nTo try and get your learning young,
\nAnd write it back to me.<\/p>\n
But this is not the only thing
\nThat I can recommend;
\nReligion is most needful for
\nTo make in us a friend.<\/p>\n
At thirteen years I found a hope,
\nAnd did embrace the Lord;
\nAnd since, I’ve found a blessing great,
\nWithin his holy word.<\/p>\n
Perchance that we may ne’er fulfill,
\nThe place of aged sires,
\nBut may it with God’s holy will,
\nBe ever our desires.<\/p>\n
