Britannia’s isles proclaim,
\nThat freedom is their theme;
\nAnd we do view those honor’d lands,
\nWith soul-delighting mien.<\/p>\n
And unto those they held in gloom,
\nGave ev’ry one their right;
\nThey did disdain fell slavery’s shade,
\nAnd trust in freedom’s light.<\/p>\n
Then unto ev’ry British blood,
\nTheir noble worth revere,
\nAnd think them ever noble men,
\nAnd like them, hence appear.<\/p>\n
And when on Britain’s isles remote,
\nWe’re then in freedom’s bounds,
\nAnd while we stand on British ground,
\nYou’re free,–you’re free,–resounds.<\/p>\n
Lift ye that country’s banner high,
\nAnd may it nobly wave,
\nUntil beneath the azure sky,
\nMan shall be no more a slave.<\/p>\n
And oh! when youth’s extatic hour,
\nWhen winds and torrents foam,
\nAnd passion’s glowing noon are past,
\nTo bless that free born home;<\/p>\n
Then let us celebrate the day,
\nAnd lay the thought to heart,
\nAnd teach the rising race the way,
\nThat they may not depart.<\/p>\n
